Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Tim Mairs joined the PSNI in 2002.
During his service, Tim has performed operational roles in North and West Belfast, South Armagh and in Crime Operations Department. Tim also established PSNI’s Contact Management Branch in 2011 and was a public order Commander at both the G8 Summit in Co Fermanagh in 2013 and the NATO Summit in Newport, Wales, in 2014.
Prior to his current role, Tim was Head of Criminal Investigation Branch. During his time there he co–chaired the Cross–Border Joint Agency Task Force and worked with NCA and HMRC to establish the Paramilitary Crime Task Force.
In September 2018 Tim formed the new Innovation & Standards Department within the PSNI, which includes the Innovation & Change Branch, Scientific Support, Criminal Justice and Professional Standards.
Tim is also the organisational lead on EU Exit.
Tim is married with two young boys and is heavily involved in police sport, as former president of the PSNI Rugby Club, former Vice–Chair of the PSNI Gaelic Athletic Club and current Vice–Chairman of the Police Athletics Association.
