Martin J Magill is parish priest at parish of St John, Belfast. He is a committed peace activist, and among many accolades, is the co–founder of Four Corners Festival in Belfast … this festival aims to bring together a divided city, holding cultural events in all four corners of the city, inviting citizens of Belfast to travel to a place where they have perhaps never been.
Fr Martin is not only a popular priest engulfed in the life of his local community, but is also a popular broadcaster on radio & TV in Northern Ireland. Together with his friend Rev Steve Stockman, a presbyterian minister in Belfast, he has addressed the Sinn Fein Ard Fheis.
More recently he spoke at the funeral of journalist Lyra McKee and his words went around the world. To quote the Irish Times, “were a clarion call in the wake of the brutal killing of 29–year–old journalist, Lyra McKee, provoking spontaneous applause and a standing ovation from the congregation including, awkwardly, the politicians.
